Caring for those in need has always been a mission for St. Stephens and its parishioners.
Provides food baskets for local families, along with school supplies, and clothing to our schools.
Donates gift cards and food items to Housing Insecure Kids through the social workers at the ISD.
Hand-writes cards are delivered to our 5 nursing homes with 360 residents.
Offers Morning Prayer and songs to Focus Care and home health care facilities.
Donates monthly to 3 different outreach ministries such as CASA, Walker County Boys & Girls Club.
Offers the use of our building and facilities to community groups such as Girls Scouts, Pets Helping People, Audubon Society, Court Appointed Special Advocates, and a local congregation, El Shaddai, currently without a church building.
In addition to the above, this congregation actively participates in---
- Angel Tree: Christmas presents for the children of incarcerated persons
- Armatus: Ministry to women veterans in prison at the Hobby and Lane Murray Units
- Bridges to Life: for the children of incarcerated persons
- Camp Good News: For 19 years the Diocese of Texas has offered a camp, free of charge, to children of the incarcerated aged 10-15. The Diocesan Coordinator of Restorative Justice, a member of our congregation, is responsible for recruiting children for camp, raising funds to finance camp and recruiting adult staff to run the camp.
- Kairos: Members of the St. Stephen's Community serve the Wynne Unit for men and the Hobby Unit for women. Kairos involves a 4-day spiritual retreat, with members of the Kairos team returning on a weekly basis. The purpose of Kairos is to build Christian community within the prison walls to transform the culture of the unit
- Community Organization for Missionary Endeavor
- (founded by Joyce Hilliard, member of St. Stephens, clothing and furniture resale (C.O.M.E. Center))
- Good Shepherd Mission: food pantry and shelter for Huntsville
- Meal On Wheels: Delivery of meals to senior citizens in our community each morning, Monday-Friday
- Blood drives Huntsville churches cooperate to donate blood on the second Saturday of each month
- Time 2 Read: volunteers from our church tutor at HISD
- Promoting Our Positives: helping house insecure children in Huntsville ISD.
- Support for Westmoreland Academy: a public school alternative for students expelled for disciplinary issues. Our prayers for the Westmorland Academy each Sunday, a campus of HISD for students failing to adhere to the discipline code, flows out of the efforts of two of our parishioners in 2017 to train their teachers in “Restorative Discipline” practices. The hoped-for outcome of this effort was the transformation of HISD’s approach from “zero tolerance” to restorative.
- Episcopal Student Center Food Bank: SHSU students food insecurity
- Bishops Relief Fund: hurricane and disaster relief
- Second Site Evangelism: The Episcopal Student Center
- Episcopal Student Center: The Episcopal Student Center is a Christian missional community affiliated with Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Huntsville and the Episcopal Diocese of Texas. Its purpose is to provide the students of Sam Houston State University opportunities to gather together for fellowship, worship, and to engage in community service.
